A passionate graduate architect and educator, Sam bridges the gap between culture, space, and human experience. With over ten years of experience at Space and Time Architects, he has honed expertise in managing private and public projects, fostering a unique workflow with BIM software like ArchiCad, Revit, and Insight 360 to create sustainable designs that benefit Malawians. Simultaneously, his dedication to education shines through in his role as a lecturer at MUBAS, where he has been instrumental in developing a flexible curriculum that celebrates regional architecture, particularly Malawian vernacular styles. This focus on regional identity aims to inspire new perspectives on a distinct Malawian architectural language rooted in local elements.
His academic journey began with a Master’s in Architecture (Distinction) from Chang’an University in China, where he published two conference papers and a journal article exploring the interplay of space, culture, landscape, and human behavior. While in China, his passion for communication led to volunteer work with the international school office, supporting information sharing during the COVID-19 pandemic. Beyond architecture, his creative spirit manifests in photography, recognized by his Chinese school, and a love for travel, where he finds inspiration in diverse cultures and their built environments.
Currently, he is channelling his expertise into developing prototype structures for informal communities in Malawi, prioritizing climate resilience and sustainability. Driven by a deep understanding of culture and space, Sam strives to create meaningful architecture that empowers and connects Malawian communities.
