On 29 April 2026, the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences Research Ethics Committee through its Compliance Office conducted a compliance training session for the WASHTED research team implementing the study “Understanding End-User Soap Preferences for Household Handwashing: A Mixed Methods Study in Blantyre and Chiradzulu District, Malawi.”
Facilitated by Lucy Moyo, the training focused on strengthening understanding of research compliance and ethical conduct throughout the study lifecycle. Key areas covered included the role of essential documents in supporting regulatory compliance, transparency, and quality assurance; monitoring responsibilities in safeguarding participant welfare and ensuring protocol adherence; and the informed consent process as a continuous and culturally sensitive engagement with participants.
Participants were also guided through compliance requirements related to approvals, data privacy, record keeping, reporting of deviations, and applicable compliance fees. Practical tools such as compliance checklists, templates, and guidance materials were shared to support effective implementation of the study.
