Introduction to MUBASREC
The Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) was established by an Act of Parliament number 19 of 2019. The University has five Schools. This multidisciplinary nature puts the university in a unique position to undertake research in various disciplines such as accountancy, engineering, information technology, quantity surveying, journalism, infrastructure development and management, public health, social sciences, and environmental health.
MUBAS is committed to maintaining the highest ethical standards in the conduct of its research.
MUBAS Research Ethics Committee (MUBASREC), under the Research Support Unit, is central to research at MUBAS. The functions of MUBASREC are twofold:
- To facilitate research involving human participants in line with international and local guidelines.
- To safeguard research participants’ rights and well-being.
Accredited in 2022, MUBASREC oversees research submissions from MUBAS staff, students, and affiliates interested in conducting studies in Malawi. MUBASREC ensures that all research proposals adhere to essential scientific and ethical principles related to human participant involvement.
The unit comprises a secretariat and one review committee. The committee convenes monthly to assess the scientific and ethical aspects of submitted research proposals.
