UniZambeze Seeks Insights from MUBAS to Boost Research Capacity

In a strategic move to enhance its research capabilities and institutional effectiveness, the University of Zambeze (UniZambeze) is set to visit the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) from 13 October to 16 October 2025.

The aim of the visit is to learn from MUBAS’ research support systems, exchange best practices and benchmark processes that will help UniZambeze strengthen its own Research Support Office.

UniZambeze is committed to becoming a research-led institution that is able to deliver a highly productive workforce, as outlined in its Strategic Plan (2023-2032). To achieve this, the University has been implementing a Capacity Strengthening Plan (CSP) and pursing Good Financial Grant Practice (GFGP) accreditation, with technical support from SARIMA and KPMF through the GATES project.

During the visit, UniZambeze will focus on the following key areas: GFGP accreditation processes, grant management, data governance, researcher development, mentorship programs and funding partnerships. Insights from MUBAS will guide improvements in compliance, efficiency and effectiveness of UniZambeze’s research operations.

The expected outcomes from the visit include stronger compliance with international standards, improved grants mobilization, enhanced data management systems, and expanded research mentorship capacity. The visit will also foster collaboration and knowledge sharing between MUBAS and UniZambeze.
