USAID Recognises Innovation at MUBAS: Advancing Research and Higher Education in Malawi

On August 22, 2024, Jill Jupiter Jones, Acting Deputy Mission Director of USAID, visited the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) alongside Dr. Tasokwa Kakota Chibowa, Chief of Party for the Transforming Higher Education initiative, and the PMU team. The visit aimed to acknowledge and support research and innovation initiatives funded by the U.S. government.

Their visit began with discussions at the Vice Chancellor’s office about the U.S. government’s contributions to higher education in Malawi, including key initiatives like the Research Repository, a grant proposal submission portal, and an offline ODeL (Open, Distance, and eLearning) digital library. Vice Chancellor Dr. Nancy Chitera praised the U.S. government’s assistance in strengthening research capacity, fostering an enabling environment for innovation.

This engagement underscores USAID’s ongoing involvement in the transformation of higher education in Malawi through projects that enhance institutional research frameworks and digital learning access​
